Munnar - A Honeymoon Paradise


Munnar area is between 1600 and 1800 meters above sea level and typically stays between 22 °C and 38 °C. The tourist season is from August to May but is especially lovely during the monsoons, with little streams and rivulets all over the place. It is close to the Eravikulam National Park, famous for the Nilgiri Tahr (Ibex).

Tea estates

Munnar is almost full of tea estates and has thick forest cover. Most of the people work in tea estates and many of them are labourers (to pluck the tea leaves). The majority of the tea estates (approx 27/30) are owned by Tata Tea, one of the Tata Group of companies. In fact, the entire area is known as the Kannan Devan Hills, from which the famous brand of the Tatas gets its name.

Tourist spots

Unlike other tourist places in India,Kerala Munnar doesn't have many artificial parks or gardens. However, due to its status as a tourist spot, a few places have more visitors:

Kannimalai Estate - Tea factory visit (special permission needed)
Rajamalai - Place quite near to jungle and location of the Eravikulam National Park , where one can see the Nilgiri tahr (kind of mountain goat). Tourists are not allowed during the breeding season.
Chinnar - Wildlife Sanctuary
Marayoor - SandalWood Forests and Plantations

Madupatti dam - Dam which was built by British where boating is offered during the tourist season.
Madupatti Indo-Swiss Project - Rare hybrids, especially the Indo-Swiss hybrid of cattle, are bred here.
Kundalai - The Sethu-Parvathy Dam (occasional streaking happens), Golf Club
Top Station - Fantastic high mountain vistas. You can see the neighbouring state of Tamil Nadu from here.

When to go
Munnar is a pleasantly cool and refreshing place to visit at most times of year. Winters are cooled! And during monsoon days the downpour is steady.

Day 1

Arrive Cochin and drive to Munnar enjoying the scenic beauty & the marvelous waterfalls, high mountains with the low flying clouds passing by. Arrive Munnar and check in at hotel. In the evening you can go for sight seeing of Munnar and visit tea gardens spread like a green carpet over hundreds of kilometers, lust green hills, a place so difficult to describe, very low population too far from pollution, most of the covered by Tata tea. Overnight at hotel.

Day2

Sightseeing Munnar which includes the Raja Malai, a top peak of Munnar where you can see Neel Thar (mountain goats), Muttupetty dam, Indo Swiss project; you can also enjoy boating in the Lake (optional). Overnight at hotel.

Day3

Full day free at explore Munnar by own and the rest of the day free to relax. Overnight at Hotel.

Day4

morning breakfast then transfer to the Airport or Railway Station for the onward trips
